PAULO COELHO was born in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, in August 1947, and he is a worldwide famous writer who has been translated into 72 languages and sold 130 million in more than 160 countries. Among his most beloved and popular novels there are "The Alchemist," "Veronika Decides To Die," "Eleven Minutes," "Brida," and "The Winner Stands Alone."
In 2002 Paulo Coelho became a member of the Brazilian Academy of Literature. In 2007 he was appointed a United Nations Messenger of Peace. In 2009 he received the Guinness World Record for the Most Translated Author for the same book ("The Alchemist"), and he was awarded with the French award of the Honorable legion.
