About Us
Q: What are the "Books Around the World Map"?
Each book has its own map. Each map shows the location of STACKS users on You Are What You Read who have added that book to their Bookprint or “Like” list or who have given and received that book through Pass It On (below). If you’d like to be added to the map, you have the option to complete the “location” field when editing your Bookprint. If you do provide your location, the map will show your Screen Name, your state/province and country. If you don’t provide your location, you can still explore the map. See the sample map above.
Q: What is "Pass It On"?
First, you must log in with your STACKS account. On the Pass It On page, you’ll be able to select a book, print out a bookplate for your book, and pass it on! Pass It On encourages you to share your favorite books with other people.
When you do Pass It On, the title of your book and the fact that you are giving or receiving it will appear on “What’s the Word” next to your Screen Name and avatar. If you provide your location information for Pass It On, you will appear on the Books Around the World Map as well. Read above for more about the Books Around the World Map. We’ll also show a tally of the number of times each book has been given through Pass It On. You don’t need to give us your location information for your book to be tallied. The aggregate tally does not show your Screen Name.
Q: What is "Names You Know"?
Everyone loves a good book – even famous people! Names You Know is a collection of Bookprints from famous people in entertainment, news, music, sports, books, and more. Which famous figure do you share a book with? Find out on You Are What You Read!
Q: What are "Book Links"?
Book Links are a great way for you to explore new reads. When you explore Book Links, you'll see the linked connections between the Bookprints of STACKS users on You Are What You Read who share a book in common. For example: if you search for Green Eggs and Ham, which is in Donovan McNabb's Bookprint and it just so happens to be in your Bookprint, then you'll see links highlighting some of the other books in his Bookprint and yours because you have Green Eggs and Ham in common!
The more Bookprints there are, the more links and diversity of books we'll see link together! This will also change as more users join You Are What You Read and new Bookprints are created. Take a look at some of the titles linked to the books in your Bookprint. What will you find? How will they change tomorrow?
